Isang counselling session…

Mentor: Grow where you are planted? Hindi yun nakasulat na ganun talaga, but 1 Corinthians 7:24 say:

“Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.”(NIV)

Mentor: Ah. Ok, dun muna tayo sa verse.

1: Corinthians 7:24 talks about the LIFE SITUATION where God found you and called you, not necessarily the PLACE kung saan ka nagli-lingkod. Paul was called in Damascus, but he went around planting churches around the world. Actually, verse 17, affirms that:

17 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches.

23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.

Mentor: 2 things, kapatid:

  1. One, yung “Church” na tinutukoy mo, is an organization institution. The true Church is not a building, or a place, or a single organization. The word “Church” or ecclesias ay collective term that refers to all the true believers of Jesus Christ, isang maliit na portion lang nun yung organization na sinasabi mo. It is a bigger world out there.  I’m sure there’s a lot of Spirit-filled leaders and workers inside, pero hindi lang sa Iglesyang iyan nananahan ang Banal na Espiritu.
  2. Two, Be fair. Just because nasaktan ka sa loob doesn’t mean hindi ka na nag-grow or wala na yung presence ng Lord sa mga tao doon. At one point in your life, nag-grow ka naman dun bro. Acknowledge that and hopefully it will make you be thankful to the people sa loob na ginamit ng Lord para lumago ka. It is an individual experience.

Mentor: Well, kung ako ang leader mo, seeing much potential in you, baka nga ganun din ang sabihin ko. Remember that these leaders are imperfect human beings like us. Gagawin nila ang lahat to keep someone they care about, including pa-awa effect and reverse psychology. That’s not selfishness or manipulative behavior bro, that only shows they are humans, and that THEY HAVE LEARNED TO LOVE and CARE for you. And yung malaman mong aalis sila kasi nasaktan mo sila and it’s too late for you para makabawi, that hurts big time, bro. Talk about self-condemnation. Happened to me.

Kaya I advise you keep praying for God’s wisdom and guidance. Don’t make permanent decisions in moments of temporary emotions…

Pero kung maramdaman mong God is leading you out, then do not delay.

Ganunpaman, sikapin mong humingi at tumanggap ng tawad bago ka umalis, then move on. Alalahanin mong minsan silang ginamit ng Diyos sa paglago mo, so honor and remember them–at least for that.

Minsan na rin akong umalis sa isang Church na 10 years kong nakasama; And I chose to have selective amnesia. So all I remember is the love and care. In my heart, I honor my former pastor as my spiritual father, and nothing can ever change that.

So I advise you do the same: sa sandaling humakbang ka palabas ng pinto, iwan mo ang anumang tampo. Don’t keep those grudges, wag mo silang i-unfriend sa Facebook, do not burn bridges. Dahil sa ayaw at sa gusto mo, these will be the same faces you will meet in heaven.

  1. tamaa po 😀
tsaka dapat di rin agad-agad nagdedesisyon lalo na pag galit.. it’s best to ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit and the will of the Lord..

  2. Amen! Our family also transferred churches. The only reason being that where we live is too far from our home church that we will no longer be effective in our ministries there. Therefore, we decided that it’s better to seek membership in a nearby church, serve the Lord there, rather than being sentimental about our home church and not able to serve there.

I agree with what you said, have selective amnesia, don’t leave a church just because you were hurt, You never know, you may have also hurt someone in that old church. Or how would you know if you won’t be hurt in the new church. All those things don’t matter, what’s important is that you are right with the Lord. Thank you for writing this post. 🙂

  3. But let me tell you, if a church is committing political theocratical tyranny, legalism, promoting man made doctrines like prosperity gospel, little gods doctrine etc.
and also man centered egoistic leadership at yung mga fanatic members walang ginawa kundi slandering, making fb accounts para sirain yung mga Umalis,REBELDE SA DIYOS IYAN KAYA..ITS TIME TO LEAVE.

Hindi na si Jesus ang naghahari diyan.

    • good point bro. syempre, these kind of things CAN happen. So each believer is encouraged to weigh things and if the signs are pointing towards the exit, then go. Howver, the context of this blog is leaving without causing havoc or inconvenience dun sa mga tao who chose to stay. Be blessed!
