7 ways to know that our choices are aligned with God’s will (part 2)

(continued from Part 1)

4. Through the Fellowship of the Saints

For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. – 3 John 1:8

This is one of my favorites, one that I always find very exciting and amusing.

Since the Spirit dwells in every True Believer, the Spirit will always speak in truth, aligned with His Word and with a powerful cohesiveness.

How it works

This is like a Lithmus Test for me. I speak to trusted friends and tell them the story. And I am always thrilled at how one or two of them will use the same verse or give the same advise — even if they didn’t speak to each other. And of course, the Spirit in me will always testify about what they say.

5. Through Circumstances Lead

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. — Romans 8:28

Simply put, this is how the chain of events seem to be pointing to one direction.

This is my belief:
Nothing happens to me without God’s approval. And when something happened it means He already approved it. And if He approves it, it means it is for my good. Case closed.

How it works

“Many times God doesn’t speak the other way, but just arranges circumstances so there is no other way to go. God oftentimes wants us to acknowledge Him through the situations that surround us.” — Mel Tari, Like a Mighty Wind

If you learn to keep an eye on how things fall into their places, soon you will be able to trace God’s fingerprints in every circumstances that happen in your life. And it should strengthen your faith, especially after you saw the result of the decision you made. You will see God is for you and with you, even directly involving himself in the events of your life.

6. Through Your Personal Conviction

And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:7

While this could be misleading sometimes, especially for the beginners — and most especially in matters of the heart, developing the skill to know when God is speaking to your Spirit is critical in every believer’s life.

Your personal conviction is proof that the Spirit lives within you. Where God is, there is peace.

How it works

Peace is the primary characteristic of this conviction. Let the absence or presence of the Peace of God be your guide. If your decision is aligned with God’s will, your conviction will always give you peace, even if the situation doesn’t make sense at all. Noah have peace building the Ark in the middle of the plains, in spite of harsh criticisms.

7. Through Supernatural Means

For God speaks time and again, but a person may not notice it. In a dream, a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber on their beds, He uncovers their ears at that time, and terrifies them with warnings, in order to turn a person from his actions
and suppress his pride. — Job 33:14-17

God is God. He is all powerful and He can choose to speak in supernatural ways — or not to use them at all. However, we should also exercise discernment, because even Satan and his fallen angels can perform supernatural stuff to mislead us.

How it works

There’s a lot of Supernatural/Spiritual means that God can choose to speak to us, depending on the need. He can use any of the following:

  1. Dreams
  2. Visions
  3. Prophecy
  4. Word of Wisdom
  5. Word of Knowledge
  6. Audible voice
  7. Talking animals (like Balaam’s Donkey)

Personal example

In my case, by His grace and mercy, I was given certain gifts from above list. Whenever I feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit to minister to another person, I let Him flow through freely. I believe each of us has his own gift and impartation from the Lord. Discover it and use it to edify others.

There was a time way back in April 2014 that I told an OFW friend working as nurse in KSA that the Lord is telling her to discontinue her contract and return to Philippines, a word that she heeded. Deep inside, I was very anxious why I said that. That time, I didn’t know about MERS. A week later, MERS outbreak was in full swing, killing hundreds of people including the head of the Haematology Division, at Jeddah’s King Fahd Hospital.

Personally, sometimes, he speaks to me through it as well. So the message is being directed to the messenger.

In rare cases, he takes me through a Lucid dream.

But even so, I prefer not to heavily rely on the supernatural means. As Satan can pretend to be an angel of light, I prefer a more natural and practical approach — God revealing through His word and other people.

If you have spare time to read personal testimony, of how these 7 ways helped me in some crucial points of my life, feel free to read these stories.

God bless you all.
